Laura was in her 50s and recently divorced. Her youngest son was now at university, and her older son was working away too. Many of her friends were still in full-time ‘mum mode’ and she realised that most of her friendships and indeed life had been about that commonality – she was now questioning who she was. Working with her coach, she re-visited old hobbies and tried new ones; rediscovering a passion for art, she took classes and joined a local artists’ group. She has made new friends, and recently contributed to an exhibition where she sold two of her paintings.
Since turning thirty, Matt has been questioning his decision to work in sales, and although he makes a good living and there is real potential for promotion, he admitted to ‘not feeling it’ anymore. Having been a competitive cyclist since childhood, he had been thinking about teaching people to ride. Working with his coach, he began to formalise this into an initiative to improve people’s fitness through lessons and organised rides across the area. He developed his confidence in himself and his passion to the point where he successfully bid for lottery funding to begin.

Tianna was a busy mum of three, but when the twins started school and her dad offered ‘grandpa’ duties for her youngest, she started to think about going back to work part-time as she missed her job. She argued with her mum, who said she should stay at home, and friends said she’d be exhausted, but with her coach she explored a variety of options for managing time more effectively, including creating detailed schedules for her day, using technology and other services to help, and even delegating tasks to the children who loved the ‘game’ with star charts and prizes!
At 57, and having lived alone for several years in a house that was ‘far too big’, Celia decided it was time to down-size. Having had often contradictory advice from friends, she firstly worked with her coach on sifting through ideas on the type of home she wanted, and was thrilled to find a little house in the area she liked. Shortly before moving, she focused on clearing her ‘clutter’, including selling unwanted items and donating to charity, then worked with her coach on decorating her new home to create a relaxing space she both loved and really reflected her personality.

When he was a child, Ethan was always running around, playing a variety of sports, and remained fit and healthy into his teens… until he and his friends discovered online gaming! Later the lads discovered the delights of the pub and, as a student and graduate, Ethan lived the typical life of long days and takeaways. By the time he was 30, Ethan acknowledged he was overweight and although his girlfriend, Bella, said she loved him anyway, she worried about his long-term health; so they worked with his coach to assess and completely change his diet and eating habits.
Always seen as a strong woman, an inspiration for friends and indeed clients, Sue finally had a breakdown in her 40s as she came to terms with childhood trauma and later experience of domestic violence. After completing long-term trauma-based psychotherapy, Sue worked initially with her coach to make significant changes to her life, including a move abroad and change in career. After settling into her new life, she worked on developing and implementing a range of strategies to maintain her positive mental health and cope with any future life challenges more effectively.

Doug was 45 when his dad, Ron, had a heart attack, and it terrified him. After having tests, he realised his lifestyle needed to change, but trying to find a balance around work and family wasn’t easy, and he didn’t know where to start. Working with his coach, he looked at what he wanted to achieve with his fitness and what he could do in and around his job; but by reassessing his routine, planning his work day more effectively and trying different activities, he now finds he enjoys his ‘hour’ in the gym every day and has even signed up for a Sunday league football team!
For nearly fifty years, Maureen shared her life with her husband, Harry, and together they had a busy social life; but when he passed away just before his 70th birthday, she was devastated. Two years on, the intense support from family and friends was dwindling a little, and she suddenly felt – in her words – lost. Working with her coach, she somewhat hesitantly looked at local groups, beginning with a book club which she really enjoyed, but when others talked about their writing it intrigued her. She recently published her first novel and is busy working on a second.

Following a seemingly endless stream of ‘bad’ relationships, Kilian all but decided to give up on finding love… until he met Rhona. She wasn’t his ‘usual’ type, but from the moment they met he knew something felt different and he was comfortable around her in a way he hadn’t been before; but he worried constantly that he was going to ‘mess it up’. Having explored underlying issues in the past with his counsellor, he now wanted to work with his coach to focus on developing key communication and self-management skills he felt he needed to make their relationship even better.
Leo was admittedly getting to the end of his tether with a colleague he found incredibly difficult to work with, and now a new manager who seem threatened by his experience in a similar role, and was behaving like a bully. There had been so many changes in his department and everyone was unsettled, but being around people who ‘pushed his buttons’ led him to consider giving up his career at the council. Leo worked with his coach to really understand how people ‘ticked’ and develop ways to both manage his stress and anger, and deal with situations assertively.

Doug and Amanda were really worried about their son, Cy. He chose his A-level subjects based on his GCSE results and, he now admitted, what his girlfriend had chosen at university, but was struggling with two subjects he wasn’t enjoying… and he and his girlfriend had fallen out. His parents suspected something was ‘going on’ but he said he was fine until, in an argument, he told them everything. Doug asked his coach if she would work with his son to ‘unpick’ the situation, and after exploring his career and training options, Cy is now back on track and much happier.
Asia remembered watching her father work long hours running a business; so when at 32 she was made redundant, becoming self-employed was the last thing on her mind. But after months of job-hunting, a friend suggested she consider taking her passion for yoga to the next level; and when she talked to her dad, he admitted it was hard work but the best decision he ever made. Working with her coach, she enrolled on a diploma course, began to run two local yoga classes, and then drafted a formal business plan to capture a range of ideas and to market her skills.

The real inspiration in Zara’s childhood was her gran, Beth, who was passionate about causes including banning animal testing and nuclear disarmament. At university, Zara studied construction, until sadly Beth passed away and, at the age of 22, she began to question her life path. Working with her coach, she explored her views and beliefs, beginning by making changes such as buying more ethically, recycling and even upcycling charity shop finds. Finally, in looking for a graduate job, she decided to opt for a company focusing on environmentally-friendly construction.
Peter was sixty and recently retired from the military, having travelled the world extensively through work and on leave. He engaged fully in the cultures he encountered, and was now a self-confessed ‘foodie’. But having explored a range of traditions and beliefs, he was also fascinated by different views on spirituality, something he hadn’t really considered before. With his coach, he delved deeply into this, both academically and practically, and via thoughts and experiences began to develop a clear view of his own spiritual beliefs, which he now integrates into his daily life.
